Welcome to Art
Hi Everyone! My name is Mrs. Kayla Lindeman and I'm excited to introduce myself as the new art teacher at Oakwood Intermediate. I'm coming to Allendale from St. Joseph Public Schools where I taught the past two years as a Young 5s-5th grade art teacher.
The goal for students in my class is for them to see the full artistic process, while recognizing that art, apart from a means of expression, can also be a future career path. This year we will focus on building skills in the elements and principles of design, look at historical and cultural interpretations of art, and study the process of art from beginning sketches to final exhibition.
Each project in my class is presented with a rubric which tells students exactly what I expect in order for them to get a 3. The rubrics are broken down into skills that are presented in kid-friendly language. Before handing in a project, students are expected to evaluate themselves and submit a rubric with their project. Students will keep all graded rubrics from the beginning until the end of the year in their sketchbooks. If at anytime you have a question about your child's progress in art, please don't hesitate to email or call me. Throughout the year, you will be able to find examples of projects and rubrics in the 4th and 5th grade drop-down menus. (Please note that I will be holding on to all projects until closer to the end of the year, in order to get artwork ready for the art fair.)
I truly believe that the success of your child in art depends on our partnership together. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, or just want to stop by and visit the art room. I'm looking forward to meeting you all this school year.
